So, apologies that I’ve been really slack recently at updating this blog…
I had a trip of a lifetime doing Route 1 in California and the weeks since I returned I have been working tirelessly with a book editor…
Anyway, the book ‘California Calling’ will be released on March 20th on amazon.com – it will also have releases on the iBookstore as well as Kindle Fire and Google Play.
The people that are already signed up to my mailing list will have the first opportunity to order the book on March 18th from amazon.
I’m really pleased and proud of the book – I guess to explain it I’d describe it as a hybrid of travel, portrait, fashion and documentary photography – so it’s a little unique…
You can view the trailer for the book below…
If anyone has any questions – feel free to put them in the comments section and I’ll try my best to answer them.
Thanks as always for reading.
Peace & Love.

Can not wait to order this book!!!! Waited so long for another book from you. I’ve seen some of the promo photos and they look amazing!!!!
Not long to wait now. Thank you for the support.
Fuckin amazing. Yes. Yes. Yes. Will order on 18th.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Do it!
Excellent. Looks awesome dude. Will def buy.
Thank you x
Really been look forward to this book.
Is this a hardback book please? I’ll buy it regardless but I’m curious kitten 😉
Yes, it’s a hardback book – with a wrap around dust cover.
Wow Santa Cruz is in the book! My nephew lives there. That’s made me very happy.
Santa Cruz made me very happy too 🙂
Ahhhhhh this is seriously cool. Have been waiting to hear something about this project. Going to order a few for friends etc
You don’t happen to have about 2000 friends by any chance? 🙂
Front cover looks cool as fu*k and that chick at the end of the video is hottttttttt!
That’s what I said.
I went to a really small exhibition you did years and years ago in LA (when was that?) anyway vine been following your work ever since. I’m on the mailing list so I get first dibs at this 🙂
A looong time ago! Without looking I’d say probably 9 years ago. Sound about right?
Love your work and love the video. Been on your mailing list for about 5 years! (you look hot when you’re working too 🙂
Are you drunk?
So basically you’ve sold out?
You’re accusing him of selling out? Are you serious?
A photographer who refuses to have “opening nights” for the reviewers and the rich, a photographer who gave a $1000 piece of work to someone who tried to steal it – a photographer who has constantly pushed the boundaries without sucking up to the egomaniac art world?
Sell out? really?
You’re an idiot David. Jealousy will reap no rewards!
Bryanny – I’ve emailed you (the address you used on here) give me your address and I’ll send you a free copy of the book x
Fucking perfect!
I’ll let you decide that 🙂 Thanks x
I met you in Santa Cruz. Can you remember giving me and my friend a card?
Ohhhh dear 🙂 Who are you?
I’ll take that as a no! HaHa you danced with my friend (she fancied you)
I run a website blog that reviews art and photography books – this looks brilliant and it would be great if you could send us a review copy. Thanks.
You’ll need to contact my agency at info@carlbeebee.com – RE: Dean.
Would love to visit California someday. In the meantime at least my favorite photographer has made a book about it 🙂 🙂 🙂
I have a question. Do you think traveling with your friends as oppose to by yourself had an impact on the book? Thanks.
Yes. But for the better. Because means it wasn’t just “work”. It’s a big part of the story.
Looks amazing.
Had the brochure arrive for this book. Looks really cool. Will be ordering. Question – Were you worried about the book – I ask because I know its very different to anything else youve ever done.
A little to start with. I said all along that I wanted it to be different. I think it is and hope that people into my work will really like it.
Where was the favorite place you visited? (ordering btw)
That’s a hard question. In truth I loved it all. Had wicked nights out and saw so many amazing places. LA felt like home though.
That shot of LA on the cover is one of the best I’ve evr seen. Respect.
Thank you.
Why is it available to ppl on your mailing list first? Seems unfair.
It’s the fairest thing. People on my mailing list have been supporting me for ten years. They’ve been to exhibitions etc. It’s my core demographic. Without them this book wouldn’t be happening.
So another photographer just wanders straight into a book deal? Great.
Yes. That. Or… A photographer who has worked his ass off for ten years walks into a book deal? Your decision…
Best night out in California? And is it in the book?
Either Santa Cruz or Hollywood. Both in the book. (Thanks Hooters)
Did you choose all of the photos in the book and is there any writing in it? I’m ordering it to.
I worked with a professional editor. She chose but I agreed with everything.
Missed the bit abut the writing… Little bits. I’ve written a thanks list and a introduction. A foreword has been written for it too. The only other text is little quotes, lyrics and amusing ramblings from our time there.
So excited about this book. Brochure looked fantastic/
Thank you Anthony
Thanks for all the questions/comments. There’s still more for me to approve which I’ll get to as soon as I can.
Beautiful people x
What advice would you give to wannabe photographers like me?
Never grow up and say “fuck”. A lot.
This trailer actually makes me rather emotional! It got to a point where I thought we’d never get another book from you! So pleased about all of this.
Don’t be emotional. It’s really, really, really happening!
beautiful and inspiring. As ever.
Can’t wait to order the book. Do you think you’ll ever do other books?
Thanks Johnny. I guess it depends on three things… 1. the response and sales of this book – 2. sorting out current issues I have with my agency -and finally 3. the right idea coming along.
